Serbian Plurals
Serbian plurals follow the gender you just learned: each gender has one core ending, and the only wrinkle is that short masculine nouns like to grow a syllable first.
The Core Endings
Feminine and neuter are almost mechanical: кућа → куће (houses), кафа → кафе (coffees), море → мора (seas), вино → вина (wines).
Short Nouns Grow: -ови and -еви
Masculine nouns of one syllable usually insert -ов- (or -ев- after a soft consonant) before the plural -и:
Longer masculines take plain -и: професор → професори, телефон → телефони.
Sound Shifts Before -и
The plural -и softens what it touches. Three consonants swap systematically — к → ц, г → з, х → с:
Plural Agreement
Adjectives and verbs follow the noun into the plural:
One more thing to file away: after the numbers 2–4 Serbian uses a special counting form (два града, not два градови) — that story belongs to numbers.
